Utter Nonsense

Sometimes I think my wife is going to kill me because of this. Not because I am working too hard and ignoring my family or sacrificing something I shouldn't. But because I just can't make up my damn mind.

So here is the story: 

I have been working on this game for about a month or so now. All this time I have had a clear aesthetic goal in mind, much of which has been shared here. Trailers have been started, assets created, ideas developed and characters animated all with this aesthetic. Then I go and change all of it...

This is not because I am indecisive or because all that work was junk. In fact the opposite is true, let me explain. When a game, movie or any form of design is being developed, the initial idea will evolve as the designers work. Sometimes there are only small little changes, and sometimes there are a drastic shifts. So much will get left on the editing room floor. However much like anything in life, the journey is as important as the destination. All of these pieces which change and get 'edited out' all help me get to this destination. From the outside, it can seem like utter nonsense, But there is method to my madness. I want to make a great game, and I am excited to do so, but the journey I will take to get there will add invaluable aspects to my initial idea. Making it so much better.

And so we arrive at today. There are going to be some drastic changes to tAp bOt, all of which I will post about over the coming weeks But I am very excited with all of this change and that is only a good thing.

The un-glamorous world of game development

From an outside perspective making games can look like a fun whirlwind ride of 3D modeling, concept painting and game testing....

Oh my friend, how little you know...

Sometimes, (in fact very often) game development involves spending an entire day in front of your screen creating frame after frame of animation, or combing through pages and pages of nonsensical code to find a game breaking bug. Suddenly 6 hours will pass and you will feel like you have done nothing. This, as I am sure you can understand, is very draining and tedious.

I recently just had one of those weeks. Spending entire days in front of my computer, creating frame after frame of animation only for it all to add up to about 30 seconds. (For those of you who don't know. The average video is around 29ish frames per second, video games can be double that. The animation is looped and stuff but still tedious.)  After this session I began to question my resolve to complete this project. Especially with a team as small as this where there is no passing the work on to another department.

What got me out of this? Well, taking a short break certainly helped. I also created this promo poster which helped clear my head. And now I am really to continue. So without any further rambling from me here is said poster.
