I was tasked with creating the main charater for a very small indie game called The Center. Unfortunatly the project never saw the light of day, but I was still very happy with the overall design.
Anu The Destroyer
The original brief described Anu (Based on the Egyptian god Anubis) as having crash-landed on an unknown planet with nothing but his armoured suit for protection and survival. With his suit damaged the player was tasked with repairing and then finding a way off-planet.
The development team wanted to have a slow but powerful character which could be easily distinguished on screen, which was also simple to animate due to time restraints and budget.
The Further Concepts
As development continued. more concepts were required in order to flesh out the feel and tone of the world which the player would explore.
An empty and desolate backdrop was decided as the best fit for the tone of the game.
Designing Anu was a long process requiring many different iterations before we as the development team were happy with the look and feel of the character. Every aspect of Anu had to be explored as each component could possibly become a gameplay element further into development.
